Making Numbers Easier to Read

Putting on information can take time. Especially putting the little things like putting the appropriate text for the date, dollars, or even phone numbers. That is why excel is their for, to help you to become progressive with little time. To input the appropriate way to set the date, you first select the cell to become the date, in the home tab in the font group, click the dialog expander. In the number tab in the category list, click Date. Then choose the option you wish to have for your cell. To get a phone number text, repeat the steps before but in the Category list, click Special. And again, choose the option you want for your text. There is a lot more options you can do in the category list for your cell, all from Excel.

Changing the Appearance of Data Based on Its Value

Your cells look pretty plain once you have put in your information based on numbers. You can add some color to correspond the setting you put or just to look great. By doing this you go to the home tab in the styles group, and click Conditional Formatting. Then you can set the cells with the color you want in the color scales or the data bar option. You can also modify your graphic by clicking conditional formatting and click on mange rules. There you can choose the way you can set the color, icon, and how it will come out in the end.

Adding Images to a Document

If you want to make your worksheet stand out. You can insert image to your worksheet to do so. First go to the insert tab then click picture. Browse for the picture you want to insert than click insert. You can also set a background for your worksheet by going to page layout tab, and click background. Choose the picture you want in your computer then click insert.

Formatting Cells

In Excel you can modify your text to become outstanding. Even little things can make the text pop out, such as adding a bold in your text by clicking the home tab then on the font group and clicking the bold button. You can also make your text bigger or smaller by going to the font group and clicking the font size control down arrow. To italize your text, click the Italic button in the font group in the home tab. By selecting a lot of cells, you can change your text all at once. If you would like to organize your whole table, you can click the border control down arrow in the font group, and click on the choice you would like. The background doesn’t always have to be white, if you click fill color in the font group, you can choose the many colors for your cell’s background. You can modify many things for your text in the office button when you click the excel options.

Defining Styles

If you didn’t like any of the styles provided by Excel, you can just make your own style by going to the home tab in the styles group and clicking cell styles then clicking the new cell style button. You can name the new style your making and add any other modifications to your style to make it stand out. After all of your modifications are done, click ok and if you would like to use your new style, go to the home tab in the styles group and click cell styles. You can see the style you have created and can use it for future use for your text.

Applying Workbook Themes and Table Styles

Just like text, you can modify your tables in excel to become well read and entertaining. Select your table and on the home tab in the styles group click format as table and click new table style. The dialog box appears and you can name your new style for your table and modify it to any kind of table that corresponds to your information or just to make it look cool. After all your modifications are done, click ok and on the home tab in the styles group, click format as table and you will see your new format in the gallery and you may choose it for your table. You can change your theme later on if you didn’t like it and you can save your theme by going to the themes group in the page layout tab, and click save current theme. Type the name you would like for your theme and click the save button. Or just don’t create a theme and choose a theme that’s in Excel.

Summarizing Data That Meets Specific Conditions

You can type in the signs of the totals in the formula bar and then typing down the cells you wish to add, subtract, or other options. In excel you can find out the total and in the end will be in lettering which for example can be set up to either true or false depending on what you put. In the end, your data meets your own specific conditions.

Finding and Correcting Errors in Calculations

There is many errors you can do in Excel and luckily, Excel tells you what equation or text is wrong or cant understand by either excel telling you or a little red line is under your text. There is a drop box called the Watch window which lets you view the value of a cell where ever you are in the worksheet. To get there you must go to the Formulas tab, in the Formula auditing group, and clicking on the Watch Window button. You can add or remove Watchs’ you have inputted. There’s also a way to see what cells are in a certain equation, first select a equation total in the worksheet, then on the formulas tab, in the Formula auditing group, and click Trace Precedents. A blue arrow tells you what cells is in that equation. You can also remove the arrows by going to the formula auditing group and click remove arrows. You can also check for errors in the worksheet, first click the error checking button in the formula tab, in the formula auditing group. The dialog box show if there is an error and you can check the next error by clicking the next button. You can also trace the error by clicking on the error checking button down arrow and click trace arrow. Arrows show you what is wrong with the equation. Lastly, you can see how a formula becomes the total/answer by going to the formulas tab, in the formula auditing group, and click evaluate formula button. Make sure you have selected a cell total before this. Click on evaluate as many time till it says restart and it’ll show you how the total comes out in the end.

Naming Groups of Data

In Excel you can name your selected cells from the Name box on the left of the formula bar. You can type what ever name you want in the name box while you have your selected cells. You can also define your name by going to the formulas tab in the defined names group and click on the name manager. Select your name in the field that you have named for your cells, and you can edit your cell range by going to the refers to field. After that you can check your named cell by going to the define name in the defined names group in the formulas tab. You can change he name there and the definition to your liking or just to see how many names you have in your worksheet.

Creating Formulas to Calculate Values

Excel is a great tool to add or subtract numbers for totals. You can enter “=” and then a cell number and letter to have the same number or text as the typed cell once you press enter. If you go to the formula bar an type in ‘=SU’, other options comes out in the list and you can choose the formula most suitable for your total. Once you have selected the formula, you can then select the cells you whish to add, subtract, or another total. Then enter a parenthesis in the end of the equation and press “enter” to accept the equation. You can change your equation to and absolute by pressing F4 or just entering $ then pressing enter. Also you can enter a table name in your equation and then pressing “[“ and in the formula auto complete list, select a name you wish to enter in your equation.

1. By selecting a cell and then entering or type the text/number you would like to put in.

It’s an easier way to input data but Excel doing for you, for example, you put in the number “1, and 2” then you click and hold the bottom right corner of the selected cell, and scroll it down/up or side to side, and automatically Excel puts in the number following “1, and 2” to 3, 4, 5… And so on.
